The brief to Fat Parrot Architects was to provide a home that maximised the distinct and unique views from this high ridge section. Views that include wide expanses of Hawke Bay incorporating Mahia Peninsula, Napier and Cape Kidnappers to the east and wide rural views across the Ranges to the west.
The resultant design provided for a north south aligned open plan living space with high double glazed windows on both the eastern and western elevations allowing for the dining and living areas to enjoy the views and sun whatever the time of day and what ever the time of year. The design focused on the setting without compromising on quality and ease of living.
The master bed (with en-suite and walk in wardrobe) maximises the views of the rising sun. A large open fire cleverly provides for a snug feel in the winter in a house that in summer will feel airy and light. The in out flow to areas of exposed aggregate from the main living areas provide ideal spaces for entertaining. The master is set to the north of the living space with the 3 remaining double bedrooms (sharing a master bathroom) to the south.
The fully fitted kitchen incorporates a walk in butler’s pantry providing additional space and work area without encroaching into the living space. Large utility areas, including airing cupboard, along with a double garage with internal entry allows the house to be practical as well as social.
The gardens incorporate the use of wood pagodas (following the design of the entrance way) and are landscaped to enhance the natural setting.
